Freetimers DSB was created 15 months ago as a result of a collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA), the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA), the Northamptonshire Partnership (NP) and Freetimers Internet, to develop a cost effective solution to the problem of supplying broadband Internet connectivity to rural communities and businesses.

By combining proven satellite and WIFI (Wireless Fidelity) technologies, Freetimers DSB are now able to supply a genuine 2-way broadband service to areas of the country where previously broadband supply has had to rely on limited or non-existent fixed telephone line technology.

The 'D' in our name gives a clue to the main advantage of our service. It stands for 'Distributed' and refers to the fact that we are able to distribute a single satellite signal amongst individual users within a community thereby enabling us to keep the cost to an individual consumer to a level comparable with broadband supply in an urban environment.
